By now, you and I can agree that a music degree (or two or three) plus infinite hours spent in a practice room offers no guarantees. If you want to not only remain in this field - but actually make a living and succeed, you're gonna have to think beyond what you've been taught up to this point.
Exciting things have come about in the classical music world over the last three years. There's talk of personal branding for musicians, marketing designed for musicians, online programs and courses, cultivating your own audience for your endeavors...on and on. There is so much available to you now that never existed before.
I sat down recently and made a list of all the different things I've done to create fresh and interesting income streams. Here it is in no particular order...

Co-founded Flutissimo, a college level summer workshop series

Elementary general music teacher, certified in Orff
Taught a toddler music class

After all that, I've walked away with a diverse skill set and the ability to create and launch just about anything. What I know for sure is that if I can dream it up, I can execute it. And there's always an audience waiting for it. The good news is people never stop wanting things.
It's easy to look at what everyone else is doing and talk yourself out of your own ideas. You've probably done it a hundred times this year. I've gotten messages and had phone calls with classical musicians just like you all year long. People who have GREAT ideas that never make it past a conversation or two.
Despite what you tell yourself, your ideas are not "stupid" or "bad". You're not "unqualified". You're not "too old". You're not "too late". Wherever you find yourself now, you can breathe new life into your career. The doors have been swinging open all year, waiting for you to walk through them. I've walked through several myself, and it's SO worth it.
The days of waiting for money to come in and waiting for particular times of year to "cash in" are coming to a close in the classical music world. The landscape is different. The rules are changing. I am personally inviting you to step into something new...using ideas, skills and talents you already have.
One of the many advantages of being a Classical Musicianeer is being able to determine how, when and where you create your income. It wasn't too long ago when your only choice was to teach and/or play - and wait for a paycheck. Today, the opportunities are endless. And I want to help you navigate it.
